Work At Home – Getting Out of Google’s Sandbox

November 19th, 2010

Posted by Dominic DeLong in web design | Comments Off

Have you created a new website for your work at home business, but just cannot seem to get it to rank in Google? If so, you are more than likely experiencing the effects of what is known as the Google Sandbox. Realize that there is no need to panic as this is normal. Essentially, Google tends not to allow websites to rank prominently in their search engine for the first year. Thus, young websites are forced to play in the “sandbox” until they mature. Thus the term, “Google Sandbox”. While according to Google, there is no sandbox per se, there definitely is a filtering effect which precludes young websites from ranking prominently. All is not lost, nonetheless. There are other ways to get targeted traffic to your website, and we will explore this ways in this article.

1. Optimize Your Website For the Search Engines

The reason why everyone focuses on ranking in Google, is because Google receives the most search traffic. With that being said, there is not reason to disregard the other two of the Big Three, Yahoo and Bing. The truth is that while your work at home website may have a difficult ranking in Google for its first year, it will probably have a much easier time ranking in the other two search engines. As a result, it is important to optimize your web pages for the search engines. Doing so will make your website more likely to rank. This will also come in handy in achieving high Google rankings, once your website jumps out of the sandbox.

2. Take Steps to Receive One Way Links to Your Website

A major factor in determining how high you rank in Google, is how many other websites link to your website. Essentially, when a website links to yours it is akin to a vote for your website. How many votes receive, and the quality of the website which these votes come from, is very important in determining where your website ranks for certain keywords. This of course is in addition to the on-page optimization of your actual web pages.

Therefore, in the meantime, while your website is sitting in Google’s Sandbox, it is a great idea to build one-way links which point at your website. One way in which you can do this is via what is known as article marketing. Essentially, you write informative articles on topics related to your niche, submit them to article directories, and place a link back to your website at the end of the article. Essentially as I have done in this article.

3. Take Advantage of Pay Per Click

Yes, free traffic is great, and can be obtained. This is especially true for websites which rank prominently in the search engines. However, while you wait for this to occur with your website, you can steer targeted traffic to your site immediately with Pay Per Click (PPC). In a nutshell, PPC involves bidding for sponsored search engine placement. The higher that you bid, the higher your website will appear in the sponsored search engine rankings. Provided that you utilize keywords and key phrases which lead to a decent conversion rate, you will make money. However, if you fail to test which keywords convert and which do not, you might end up at a deficit. This it is why it is important to pay close attention to conversion rates utilizing this method of paid advertising.

Well, that brings us to the point where we wrap things up. Hopefully you can see that if you are working hard to rank in Google within the first few months of your website’s existence, and are not seeing the results, it is more than likely due to the fact that your website it in Google’s Sandbox. Be cognizant of the fact that attempting to rank for more competitive keywords will keep your website in Google’s Sandbox for a longer period of time. For example, any website which attempts to rank for the key phrase, “work at home” will experience a fairly long wait due to the fact that this is a very competitive term. However, a website attempting to rank for the key phrase, “work at home in the City of Winnipeg” will not have much trouble ranking at all, and will most likely spend very little time in the sandbox. This is due to the fact that this search phrase is much more specific, and far less competitive. One way or another, just realize that slow and steady wins the race. You must be consistent to achieve the desired results.

Assuming that you Work At Home , there is a good chance that you have a website. Assuming that you want to Make Money Online with the help of your website, you cannot remain the Google’s Sandbox. Drop in and see what we are about at SOSComplete.com

Establishing A Web Presence For Your Work From Home Business

October 12th, 2010

Posted by Dr. Jeffrey L. Dowdy in web design | Comments Off

Websites have grown to be a necessity to just about everybody who wants to work from home. Companies, work from home businesses, individual entrepreneurs, even younger adults have created private internet sites and make money working from home web pages with their respective purposes, be it for profit, or for entertainment.

What one must consider, however, before creating a work from home website or a personal web page, are the factors in which must be considered important, such as the cost, maintenance, use, web host and so forth.

Firstly, considering the cost, we will have to all the time attempt to find an inexpensive host, not spending too much, nor too little. A reasonable host does not exactly represent a credible reliability rating, but we should always search for value for the money we spend selling our work at home opportunity. Also, in regards to the potency and server/web host reliability, there are many instances of web hosts not providing the service they had assured people, some had even shut down and had been nowhere to be seen. Keep this note in mind, as you certainly desire to have a website online for a long time, this would be the very first thing to look for.

Second, might hiring a certified web developer be affordable? Is it the most productive option? For easy websites, we can consistently make up the html coding, use programs, or templates as it is moderately simple. However, on the subject of more advanced html coding, and when you wish to have it to do more than simply providing information, hiring skilled help in doing so will be the absolute best option. If the web site also acts as a portal for businesses, protecting your website might undoubtedly be the issue here.

Thirdly, maintaining a good website can be complicated. Reading quality books on the subject or discovering online training is a great thing to do. If you are not skilled in the practice of web development, maintaining a website can be complicated and overwhelming. Fortunately, the internet provides a wealth of knowledge that you can utilize.

Fourth, you will want to find ways to promote your website. The internet is full of ways to promote and market your work from home business. You need to find a couple of sure ways such as Pay Per Click advertising or article writing. In any condition you need to promote your website otherwise no one will ever find your web business.

Fifth, naming your site becomes important as well when you are marketing your web business. Name your business something that coincides with what you are marketing. For example, if you are marketing a website that sells cow bells then name your site with the words cow bells in the title.

So, having considered the things to do before building a website, do we actually NEED one? If creating one would boost sales or promote positive implications to oneself, then by all means, go ahead and do what is best. Yet again, planning is the key to success, in everything we do.

Before beginning any online business make sure you consult with Jeff Dowdy’s work from homeopportunity, and make sure to find your long lost loved through a free people search. Free reprint avaialable from: Establishing A Web Presence For Your Work From Home Business.

Digital Photography Allows YOU To Do Pro-Quality Work

April 4th, 2010

Posted by admin in digital photography | Comments Off

Is there any reason that YOU cannot take professional quality photographs? Not any more. We are in the digital age – and for photographers (by the way, that’s you) this is good news! You do not need a lab full of darkness and chemicals to set up a darkroom – digital allows you to take control of every step of your photography – from shooting, to loading on your computer, to editing and printing your images – all from your desk (or the kitchen table, if you so desire).

You can do it all! Rather than be amazed at what the pros can do – be amazed at what YOU can do! Digital photography allows YOU to do what, formerly, was reserved for the pros:

remove red eye

remove shadows

crop unwanted objects

crop for close ups

clone out undesirables

change an image to black & white or sepia

adjust the background

make a collage of special images

And this is just the beginning.

You can do a tummy tuck and never leave the house

You can melt away years with a clickety-click

You can wave goodbye to wrinkles

Of course, there is much more you can do in editing your images, but you get the point.

Another digital photography beauty is the ability to shoot your people or events and view them ON THE SPOT! This can be done either through your digital camera’s viewfinder or by loading onto your computer. When you are shooting special events in your life this is a real plus. Getting developed rolls of film back from a reunion or vacation is heartbreaking if something went wrong (and even someone having their eyes closed, if it is during a wedding portrait, is “something wrong”).

Practice makes perfect! If you believe this AT ALL, you can better understand why digital photography can help you learn to do great photography. Watch someone taking photographs with a medium format camera. At $$ per pop, notice how careful they are as to what they shoot, and how often. With digital you have no such limitations. You can shoot 300 pictures of sunsets, waterfalls, wildlife, wedding photos or your grandkids, and it is not a pain in the billfold.

This does not mean go out and shotgun blast everything you see. You still want to keep in mind the need to have a reason (theme) for taking a photography – think about how to focus attention on it, removing what distracts from your theme, and adding whatever attracts or highlights your theme, to make it a great photograph. However if you subscribe to “practice makes perfect” I hope you also agree with the guide “repetition for emphasis.”

When you learn ONE thing in the field of photography, digital allows you to put it into application immediately and without limit.

Digital cameras are becoming even more affordable for the average shutterbug. You can purchase a quality point and shoot digital camera or a pro-sumer DSLR and neither will require a home loan.

Yes, digital photography is not only the wave of the future – it is a wonderful way for you to enjoy one of the truly great hobbies and – for some – a very rewarding career!
