A friend of mine had been saving up for some time to buy the legendary Photoshop. The editing software of choice by graphic designers, soulless tabloid journalists and artists around the world, he knew he was making a great choice. He imagined his life would be complete when he bought Photoshop. Life would be breezy, he would glide around his laptop making outstanding images whenever he wanted. But when he eventually bought the Photoshop package, he was completely lost and really needed to begin understanding the basics of Adobe Photoshop that very day.

You shouldn\’t have to go through this tragedy. You deserve better. Photoshop may be expensive, but anyone who knows how to properly use it will tell you it\’s worth every cent. Like anything else you will have to make mistakes and learn by yourself, exploring the interface of the software. One way to help is to go to \’Preferences\’. Here you can improve the performance of your Photoshop.

Here is some advice to get you started. Search for the \’History Log\’ on the screen. This is where you can save your progress while you edit your image. The are a number of options to personalize your session. For example select \’Sessions Only\’ to make the log remember the time and date that you start each session. Choose \’Concise\’ to recall more information about your work. And you can pick \’Detailed\’ for the most information, recording details about every edit you do to the image.

Find the \’History Log\’. Here you can save every step you take when making your picture. You can choose how much information it saves. For example choose the \’Sessions Only\’ to remember the time and date that you start each Photoshop session. \’Concise\’ records more information on all the editing sessions. You can also choose \’Detailed\’ which does the same job as \’Concise\’, but also notes the file path and details about every edit to the file.

The only real way to learn photoshop is to play around with things. Keep exploring and discover what you can do. For more specific learning read about Photoshop online and try out the many available video tutorials. After a while, you\’ll be making superb pictures just like my nephew wanted to! He also wanted to know how to make a collage using Photoshop, and he found this excellent video – http://www.learnphotoshopnow.com/blog/2009/08/how-to-make-collage-using-photoshop.html

LearnPhotoshopNow is a great place to start learning the basics of Adobe Photoshop and offer a step by step video tutorial program that will help you to really understand the basics of Adobe Photoshop in less than 2 hours, as my friend did.

Photo preservation can be a complex process that requires lots of patience, knowledge, and care. When people handle their pictures and negatives, they do many things, unintentionally, that are very harmful to them, and most do not even know they are damaging their photos. Besides sticking fingers all over the pictures, there is more than fingerprints that can slowly destroy your paper memories. Pictures are actually made of gelatin and tiny silver particles. This makes them susceptible to bug infestation, mold, mildew, and humidity.

Unfortunately, many things that are made for use with pictures are the very things that hasten their disintegration. Many picture boards, cardboards, and most glue contain an acid that slowly eats away at the pictures. Even the chemicals that are used to develop the film from negatives are to blame for the eventual demise of these photographs.

Photo Preservation: Safe Handling

The most common problem that causes photographs to be lost is one that is simple to remedy: Lack of Identification. Who in the next generation would keep pictures around full of people and places they know nothing about? The first tip for preserving pictures is when you do write identifiers on them, use India ink or a carbon ink pen. Many other regular pens contain chemicals that will eventually ruin the photo. Dont use oily erasers, and never write on the front of the picture, with the exception of special paints designed to do so. Most people are commonly aware that sunlight will ruin photographs, so be careful where you place your pictures in their frames.

Never use rubber cement to adhere photographs to anything. The acids in rubber cement will ruin the picture quickly, cracking the emulsion and paper backing. Rubber cement contains sulfur, which reacts with the silver that sentences pictures to certain death! Do not use the photo albums that have the self-adhesive pages covered by clear plastic film. The glue, again here too, is acidic. Never display your pictures in vinyl sleeves. The sleeves are made out of a certain type of plastic that will cause both color and black and white photos to fade.

Photo Preservation: Safe Storage:

Art supply stores and photo shops are excellent places to find photo-friendly supplies for your pictures. Many times, pictures that you want to keep in storage are done so by putting them in any old bag or a box. There are boxes specifically designed for storage, but be careful; to keep photographs safe for many years, look for containers that are labeled as safe for archival storage.

Also, keeping them in metal filing cabinets is ok too, or at least better than in a cardboard or wooden box. Once you have specifically-designed boxes for the pictures, be sure to keep them in a cool, relatively dry place. Finally, never keep your photos, no matter what kind of storage box they are in, on floors or in damp basements.

Adobe Photoshop has set the industry standard for photo and image editing. In fact, its popularity is such that it has become a full-blown industry in itself. In terms of ease of use and editing possibilities, Adobe Photoshop is hard to beat. And it’s quite easy to learn even for beginners, especially those who have never in their life tried an image editing software before. There are literally thousands of tutorials online and on DVDs that can teach anyone the magic tricks of Photoshop.

If you’re quite capable of navigating yourself using a program, your Adobe Photoshop installer has everything you need. Provided of course you know what you’re looking for and what the terms mean, you will find the ‘help’ function very helpful. However, if you do not know the difference between crop and cut, you’ll need to turn to other resources.

Head off to http://Adobe.com to find out more about Photoshop. There are plenty of info you can access from the site courtesy of their in-house experts. You’ll find thousands of featured tutorials online, although if you’re a beginner, you might want to take it slow and go to the ‘Basic’ tricks first before getting your hands on the more advanced techniques.

Adobe Photoshop is very easy to learn but you should first understand how it works and what exactly it can do so you’ll have realistic expectations. Don’t worry, though. Adobe Photoshop can create lots of magic and it won’t disappoint. Once you’ve learned the basics, you can move on to the intermediate and advanced techniques.

If you prefer textual tutorials, you can use the articles on http://Creativepro.com.

Consumers have gone digital ever since the technology improved and became cheaper. Nowadays, digital cameras are build to be affordable and user friendly. Gone are the days when we buy specific ISO films for specific occasion.

Still, you need to learn about digital photography before you start using your camera.

1. Understand the features

Do you know how wide your camera lens is? Do you know the smaller the lens size (mm) the more you can fit into your picture? How much is the optical zoom of your camera? Do you know optical zoom is more important than digital zoom when you are taking a picture?

Besides, cameras nowadays don’t just take photos. Cameras like compact digital cameras are capable of taking video too. Can you benefit from this feature?

Digital camera is just a tool to the vast world of photography. If you really want to learn digital photography, you need to realize the potential of your camera.

2. Read the manual

Unless you are really into photography, a lot of consumers didn’t read the manual. If you are one of them, probably you have even misplaced the manual now.

But the fact is, your untouched manual is a very good guide for your digital photography hobby. It often surprises the consumers because their camera can do a lot more than they think.

3. Learn the basics

The basic of using a digital camera is to look at the subject from the LCD screen or eyepiece, focus on the subject manually or automatically, snap the picture and view it on TV or PC.

You will only know how to make your pictures unique after you master the basics.

4. Experiment

One of the best ways to understand the potential of your digital camera is to experiment with it.

Capture the subject with different mode and compare which of them is better. Sometimes capturing a picture under dim light with flash off is better than setting the flash on.

Since your pictures are stored digitally, you don’t need to worry about spending money on film. The maximum wastage can only be battery power which is also rechargeable.

Always Streamline and organise your Layers palette by creating and labelling groups of related layers. Layers are powerful tools, but things can get confusing if you don’t keep them under control by labelling them and placing them in sets.

When layers appeared back in version 2 of Photoshop, designers wondered how they had ever managed without the facility to create artwork on multiple editable layers.

Although we now take layers for granted, there are some useful management options that many users may not be taking advantage of. Working smarter with layers means labelling them for a start; this saves you having to scroll up and down the Layers palette, trying to guess where a particular element is stored.

Grouping related layers into sets, and colour-coding them, will help you to further streamline your workflow.

Creating Layer sets:

To quickly create a layer set, click on the chain icon link a group of related layers together. Open the Layers Palette menu and choose New Set From Linked.

Layer sets can be opened for editing purposes and then collapsed to display a single folder icon, saving valuable screen space.

Another way to create a layer set from linked layers is to click the Create a new set icon at the foot of the palette. When you create a new layer, colour-code and label it for easier access.

You can easily remove and reorganise layer sets. Right-click on a set’s icon to delete the set while retaining the individual layers.

Quick tip if you are working on a project and you are working in minimised mode, this will help you not to cullter your workspace and helps keep all the layers out of sight, but immediately accessible.
