Always Streamline and organise your Layers palette by creating and labelling groups of related layers. Layers are powerful tools, but things can get confusing if you don’t keep them under control by labelling them and placing them in sets.
When layers appeared back in version 2 of Photoshop, designers wondered how they had ever managed without the facility to create artwork on multiple editable layers.
Although we now take layers for granted, there are some useful management options that many users may not be taking advantage of. Working smarter with layers means labelling them for a start; this saves you having to scroll up and down the Layers palette, trying to guess where a particular element is stored.
Grouping related layers into sets, and colour-coding them, will help you to further streamline your workflow.
Creating Layer sets:
To quickly create a layer set, click on the chain icon link a group of related layers together. Open the Layers Palette menu and choose New Set From Linked.
Layer sets can be opened for editing purposes and then collapsed to display a single folder icon, saving valuable screen space.
Another way to create a layer set from linked layers is to click the Create a new set icon at the foot of the palette. When you create a new layer, colour-code and label it for easier access.
You can easily remove and reorganise layer sets. Right-click on a set’s icon to delete the set while retaining the individual layers.
Quick tip if you are working on a project and you are working in minimised mode, this will help you not to cullter your workspace and helps keep all the layers out of sight, but immediately accessible.

If you want to modify a gradient you can do so by changing the color stops.
Click on one and choose a new color from the color picker, it’s that easy.
You can also click on an image and sample a color for your customized gradient. When you do this you can use the Eyedropper Tool to customize or you may want to add new color stops to a gradient that already exists.
You just click anywhere along the bottom edge of the preview bar and you will be able to add new color stops.
Maybe you want to add different opacity settings so that you can have an image fade from solid to transparent.
This can be done when you use the opacity stops that run along the top of the preview bar. The black opacity stop will be 100% solid while a white opacity stop will tell you that this part of the gradient is 100% transparent.
The gray stops show you the values in between.

Adobe is to release an update to Photoshop CS3 to improve problems with the application’s printing system, the Photoshop product manager John Nack has admitted an entry to his blog.
Nack acknowledges that users have had issues with the new Print dialog box introduced in Photoshop CS3 — which was added to try to simplify printing practices — and that the company is trying to address their concerns.

“We know that many people have been unhappy with printing from Photoshop CS3 (overwhelmingly on Windows), and we’ve been working on changes that will make things work better,” he writes. “Unfortunately the process isn’t as quick as we’d like, given the sheer number of hardware, printer driver, and operating system combinations. We’ve made some changes & will be issuing an update to Photoshop CS3, but it’s not quite ready to be shared with the world at large.”

The core issue is that Adobe modified the page set-up settings to be document-specific in Photoshop CS3 on Windows, rather than application-wide as they were on previous versions. This also meant that certain settings that were previously available through Photoshop have to be set in the printer’s own driver controls, including borderless-printing.
This is a topic Nack has covered before in an entry where he quoted a colleague, Dave Polaschek, noting that “this is the way the Mac version has always behaved, and was the way the Windows version of Photoshop was intended to behave way back in the day, but for one reason or another, that never quite got hooked up.”
Polaschek says that the change was made in Photoshop CS3 to try to harmonize the Mac and Windows versions — but lists a few workarounds to common issues.
Printing inside Photoshop has always been a thorny issue, with users having to try to match settings in the Print dialog to those in their printer driver. For this reason, many high-end photo printers — including Canon’s Pixma Pro range, HP’s Photosmart Pro B9180 and Designjet Zxxxx range, and Epson’s forthcoming Stylus Photo R1900 — ship with a Photoshop plug-in that centralizes output controls, combining the Print Dialog and driver controls.
Nack is inviting users with printer problems who’d like to test the new printing system to email him, so they can be invited to try a pre-release version of the software. He ends by saying: “I’m sorry that things have been more painful than they should be, and I hope this process helps get fixes into the hands of those who need them.”
