“A link between what a company produces and the consumer”??
Shell Petroleum… what’s a shell to do with petrol?
Blue Circle Cement… what has a blue circle to do with cement?
A lion and MGM studios?

I have to dismiss Rand in this interview. A Logo is a representation of the company and should always be looked at as a link between what a company produces and the consumer. To create a logo with disregard for the product and/or service the company is selling or providing is just a meaningless icon… The logo is the corporate or product icon and should identify with the product and/or culture of the company…

I also disagree with people not knowing his name, if you’re a designer, and unfamiliar with Paul Rand, you don’t deserve the title

I agree, I mean come on this is Paul Rand. I’d have a heart attack right before interviewing hiM!

OK, I confess. The whole gum-sucking, lip smacling thisng going on with me was because I was so nervous interviewing my design hero that I kept popping Ricola’s in my mouth to keep it from becoming as dry as dirt.

These loosers are talking cock do graphic design its such a wide subject, if you choose an illustrative version then you have the guidence from your tutors in anything you waant and in time you will learn so many different things all steming from the same core skills of balance composition clarity and impact, after you have them (which is what design is) you have the foundations for everything !!! its by far the best subject !!! lots of room for experiment, !!!

trust me.. be an architect.. architecture is more versatile than graphic design.. you can still do graphic design, but i am sure it would be rather tough the other way. my first love was architecture, but was rejected, ended up marrying graphic design, which is equally fun, but i do miss architecture. cheers
